Create a large dish, wall artwork, or bowl from recycled bottle glass while learning kiln-formed glass techniques such as cutting and assembling.

Refind:– Opening a Bottle to make your own Artwork Opening a bottle is an amazing process that requires heat and simple tools. In this class we invite participants to get ready to experience glass cutting, glass smashing and the full creative process of turning discarded glass bottles into something new and meaningful.
In this hands-on introduction to sustainable glassmaking, students will begin by selecting used glass bottles – symbolic of the of everyday consumption and needless waste. Learning how to safely approach and work with this most beautiful man-made material, they learn techniques to open, cut, and transform glass bottles into unique dishes, bowls, or sculptural pieces of their own design. Through guided demonstrations, participants discover the fundamentals of glass shaping, from refining edges to exploring heat-forming methods that bring each creation to life. Along with practical making skills, the course emphasizes an understanding of sustainable practices – such as reusing, repurposing and rethinking how we can reduce glass waste, conserve energy use, and reduce our environmental impact.
By the end of your glassmaking session, you will leave with deeper understanding of the sustainability, a Refind Coaster and have assembled your glass artwork, ready for fusing and firing. More than just a class, the Refind workshop is an invitation to reimagine waste – as a resource, a material for artmaking and an understanding that collected bottles can find renewed purpose through design, craftsmanship, and sustainability.
